WALT Make Pancakes Tuesday 5th February 2008 Well… Shrove Tuesday, or Pancake Day comes around once a year and to make the most of the opportunity and to tie in with some of our RE work where we have been looking at Lent, we had a go at making some pancakes of our own. All children that were present on Tuesday 5th February, had the opportunity to work as part of a group and make a batch of pancakes for themselves. As they worked they looked at important skills, like teamwork, measuring, weighing, sequencing their actions. They learnt about imperative/ bossy verbs needed in instruction writing and thought about preparing and organising equipment. Children also thought health and safety implications when cooking and had some really nice things to say about the experience!
Job number 1… Washing hands
Careful measuring… 4oz of plain flour
A cracking time was had by some children in the group… but not by everyone, one egg per six children were needed…
Whisk! Whisk… whisk!
How much can I fit in?.. Someone
Whisking… probably the hardest job in the world… good job there were six people in a group to share the work!
The irreversible change gets underway.
The oil was too hot… so tossing the pancake

Sara 4C - “They were really lovely, even though I said before that I didn’t like them.” Edward 4C - “The pancakes were delicious and they were lovely and golden.” Mollie 4C - “Thank you very much for making pancakes, Miss Condley. They were really, really nice!” Lewis 4C - “I enjoyed smashing the sugar cubes and cutting up the pancakes. It really helped me to write my sentences and my method because I had done it.” Thomas 4c - “Extremely tasty and now I like them very much!” Below are some examples of the children’s instruction writing that we got out of making the pancakes. |
