Year 1 Enthuse over their
‘Homes A Long Time Ago’ Topic!

Only 2 weeks into their new ‘Homes a Long Time Ago’ project, and Year 1 have impressed their teachers’ through the motivation and interest they have taken, by collecting old objects from home, and carrying out independent research!

During the half term Isabelle decided to investigate further our new topic, by visiting the Black Country Museum and creating a ‘scrap book’ about the information she found out there.  The detail she had included and the professional way in which she had put the information together to create her book, was simply ‘outstanding’ and Mrs. Britton was so impressed that she credited her work with a special ‘teacher’s award’.  It is very rewarding when a trip to Blists Hill can trigger a 5 year old to carry out such level of quality research!  Well done Isabelle!  (Isabelle is photographed in the role-play ‘Victorian home’ corner.)

Thomas brought in his Grandmother’s ‘paper weight’ and enjoyed discussing with the class why it is such a nice ‘decorative’ piece.

Zak Morris also produced a wonderful sketch.

The classes were fascinated by the objects that Andrew brought in to show.  These were a silver teapot, purse and a coin.  He also brought photographs of ‘antique’ pieces of household artifacts

Here are some of the sketches that were inspired by Andrew’s old items…

Amy-Jo talked enthusiastically about her old-fashioned
calculator, silver ‘match box’ and a variety of old coins.

detailed sketch of the match box.

As well as all the wonderful work the children have chosen to do, they have also produced some charming recounts of their trip to Blists Hill during their Literacy lessons.

Keep up the good work!  The standard of work emerging from these 5 and 6 year olds is inspiring!
