"Coming out of the mill"

People are drooping out
Of foggy factories
Weary people
Tired people
The frustrated wind
A miserable day
Never happy.

Matthew

Starving people plodding home
Aching limbs in the blustering cold
Restless children moaning miserably
Factory smoke still burning away
The childrens’ play area
Filled with boredom
Old ladies
Struggling to work.

Crowds of hungry restless people
Staggering down the gloomy street
Hunched backs and aching limbs
Sloping heads as they slowly walk
The morning has gone
The night has awoken
People working
From dawn ‘til night

Poor people strolling
Bent backed
Head bowed
Restless trudging
With starvation
In blistering cold
Slouched back
At work
Aching limbs
Tired days of work
Drooping faces
Paid little
Boredom in
The house
Little food to eat
Frustration
Fear around them
Shuddering
Every minute
Every day.

By Charney Hill

Miserable people
Hungry people
Ordered people
Restless people

Dirty clothes
Ripped clothes
Ragged clothes
Clothes with no colour

Hunched backs
Slow movements
Weary limbs
Stiffening

Carts for travel
Houses with broken windows
Shops sell old things
No time for life

Natalie Kinnear

Poor tired men
Trudging towards home
Leaving work behind
Coming from the mill

Depressing days
Filled with drudgery
Murky smoke
Starving
Coming from the mill

Hungry families
Drooping workers
Walking
Slowly home
Coming from the mill
