Girls Only Football
South Staffs Council Tournament in partnership with Wyrley Juniors FC An extremely warm afternoon provided for a lovely afternoon of girls football with teams entering from across South Staffordshire, providing the players for a fun, competitive and enjoyable afternoon of entertainment for anyone fortunate enough to have been there to witness it. Teams taking part in the different age ranges (Y3/4 and Y5/6) included our school, (3/4, 5/6) Glenthorne Primary School (3/4, 5/6), St Nicholas (Y3/4), Blakely Heath (two teams in both Y3/4, Y5/6), Princefield (Y3/4), St Paul’s (Y3/4) Bilbrook (Y5/6) and Brewood (Y5/6)
Back Row (left to right) E. Downes; B. Jones; A tough choice picking two let alone three players of the tournament for our Y3/4 team, each one of the girls deserves praise for their commitment and energy. The girls really took part with enthusiasm, skill and determination. Georgia got injured early on, but played on despite the injury and inspired her team mates, Beth ‘I can’t play football…’ got stuck in, was at the centre of everything good and was unlucky not to score when the keeper made a great save in our last match.. Chloe made some fine saves – Lauren, Abbie and Ayse got better as the tournament went on; Katie never stopped running and Isobelle was solid and reliable and did a super job mopping things up at the back! Oh, I nearly forgot – Ellie scored the only two goals the Y3/4 and Y5/6 teams managed; one of which a direct run from the half way, she managed to shrug off the challenge of two defenders having a pull of the shirt and a nibble at her ankles to beat the goalkeeper from ten yards!

Y5/6 Girls
Back Row (left to right) S. Haywood; M. Walkerdine; H. Marrocco; Joint players of the tournament for the Y5/6 team had to be Kate Barratt who just grows in stature every time I see her on the sports field, tough in the tackle, confident on the ball – and Kennedy Tonks who is just full of so much energy, she was a little tiger all afternoon and wanted to inspire the rest of the girls around her. Unfortunately the only thing missing from Kennedy was a goal! But she knows that J
