Friday 9th September 2005

Dear Parent,

Will you help us to send food parcels to Bulgaria?

As "Bulgaria Aid" have found new storage facilities, we are able to restart the collection programme which aids the poorest people in that country throughout the cold winter months. The local charity, which works with schools and churches, has been providing relief to that country for 8 years.

Although Bulgaria is known as an up and coming holiday destination for those of us in Western Europe, the poverty and need is great there during the winter period. Holiday experiences belie the poverty that exists.

Special cardboard boxes will be delivered to the school. Each box will be filled with goods which are on the "Family Food Parcel" list on the reverse of this letter.

Each year group in school will focus on particular products for a week and collect the items in school. There will be a money request one week to help finance transportation.

Staff in school will follow up today's launch by asking pupils to research into Bulgaria which will continue to help us to address one of the school's OFSTED inspection key issues.

The project will culminate in a celebration Harvest Service at 11.30 a.m. on Thursday October 6th. We will be inviting the directors of the Charity, Roger and Eileen Wilcox, to join us. They will be telling us about conditions in Slivern, Bulgaria, which is linked to the Walsall area.

After the service we will be busy boxing up the products and take them in the school minibus to the new storage centre .The boxes will be flown out to Bulgaria later in the month for distribution to the poorest families.

Please note:

  • All foodstuffs must have an expiry date after feb 2006, otherwise Customs may reject the whole shipment as the quantities and instructions must be followed accurately.

  • Please send only the exact quantity of the specified item.

You can help us in two ways:

  1. Responding to year Group item requests from the list below. We hope that we can cover all the items on the list on a class and year group basis.
  2. Making a straightforward cash donation to aid transport of the goods to Bulgaria.

Please help us to help those who are less fortunate than ourselves.

Many thanks.

Yours sincerely,
