Schools to Face the Axe

Schools in Great Wyrley, Cheslyn Hay and Penkridge could be axed under a radical shake-up of education provision in South Staffordshire. Education chief at Staffordshire County Council have been forced to consider the drastic step of closing schools because of falling rolls in the district.

They have split the district up into four zones Cheslyn Hay and Great Wyrley, Codsall, Penkridge and Brewood and Wombourne and Kinver and made plans for each one.

In Cheslyn Hay and Great Wyrley proposals include relocating one of the two libraries in the villages into one of the schools and developing the Cheslyn Hay campus to offer nursery and 6TH Form provision for the pupils.

The viability of having four primary schools in the area will also be reviewed and the proposal put forward to Monday's cabinet meeting is whether the county can afford to keep Cheslyn Hay, Glenthorne, Landywood and Moat Hall open.
