Cheslyn Hay Primary School

Spring topics

Dear Parents,

The topic for this term is living and growing. The focus will be on Knowledge and Understanding. We will be planting and growing bulbs and seeds and looking at how we grow, and for signs of spring.

We will be doing a lot of work about caring for babies in our personal and social development and will be holding a baptism of a doll at the end of term.

A baby clinic will be the focus for our role-play and we will be writing in our baby books and taking telephone messages in literacy, together with a focus on the rhyme Humpty Dumpty. The sounds we are focusing on are ch, and sh and aeiouq and r, and of course we are still learning to read and write the high frequency words.

The Mathematical development we are still learning to recognise and use coins, we are starting to write numerals and are going to begin making predictions and estimations, much of which will take place in our toy shop role play area and by playing board games. ---- If there are any parents who enjoy playing simple board games we would welcome your support and any time you could give us.

In Creative development we will be drawing and painting still life (spring flowers) and using texture to create spring pictures.

We will be learning about pitch and learning some new spring songs for music.

In ICT we will be supporting the mathematical curriculum.

In design technology we will be continuing to practise different paper folding techniques and ways of joining materials e.g.. glue, sellotape and split pins.

Thank you for your continued support especially in hearing your child read and writing their words.

Yours truly,

S. Ashley (Early Years Co-ordinator),
J. Thornborrow (Teacher)
