"Shiver mi Timbers"

There’s Piracy in Reception!

Shiver mi Timbers

John Thornborrow with pupils

The reception classes have used the time honoured story of "Peter Pan and Wendy" as a main focal point for the curriculum.

The pupils have used this story to develop the concept of what an island is; what the sea is; the fact that the UK is an island; had a globe on their tables to see how the earth consists of land masses, seas, oceans, continents and islands.

They have used music and movement to re-create Captain Hook and visit "Treasure Island"

The writing table, with word cards to help support their writing about water and the sea, has been a busy area.

The theme area enabled pupils to jump on board and re-create the story with a range of costumes including the "Tick-Tock" crocodile.

As a culmination of the project, all reception teachers and pupils came to school on Friday 8th February dressed as pirates or characters from Peter Pan.

Are we surprised that the LEA have asked us to host a newly qualified teacher for a day from Wolverhampton to see good practice at work?

A fabulous project which has gained the attention of the local press.

My eye patch is in place but it’s
hard to draw with one eye!

Don’t "mix it" with this chappy!

I had to take this picture.

If I hadn’t I would have
had to have walked the plank!

A brilliant project and many thanks to the Reception staff.
