Cheslyn Hay Primary School

Nursery Newsletter

Dear Parents,

Welcome to Cheslyn Hay Nursery class. We are glad to say that the children are settling in really well and are enjoying their time with us.

As a class the children will be focusing on "Pets" as their topic.

In Personal and Social development they will develop the confidence to try new activities, to form good relationships, take turns, share and to manage their own personal hygiene.

In Language and Literacy they will share stories, interact with others, listen to others, use language and will be introduced to Letterland. We will introduce Letterland by using the sound at the beginning of their names. The children will be encouraged to bring items from home in the following weeks.

Week beginning: -

29th April - Max and Maxine says "x"

Zigzag zebra says "z"

6th May - Annie apple says "a"

Bouncing Ben says "b"

15th May - Clever cat says "c"

Golden girl says "g"

20th May - Jumping Jim says "j"

Kicking King says "k"

27th May - Lucy lamp Lady says "l"

Munching Mike says "m"

These will then be displayed on our sound table and sent home at the end of the week. It would help us if all items could be labelled please.

In Mathematical development they will develop ideas and solve problems, say and use number names up to 5, recreate simple patterns and describe position. We would like to set up a colour table and would like the children to be involved in this table. If your child would like to bring in an item of that colour it would be most welcome.

Week 1 - Red

Week 2 - Blue

Week 3 - Yellow

Week 4 - Green

Week 5 - Orange

These will be returned once we move onto the next colour.

In Knowledge and understanding of the world (science, technology, history and geography) they will find out about and identify some features of living things and how to care for their pets. They will build and construct with a wide range of objects.

In Creative development they will explore colour, texture, shape, and form and use their imagination. They will recognise and explore how sounds can be changed and learn simple songs.

Just a few reminders

  1. Please can you make sure that your child’s clothes are clearly
  2. Labelled with their name.

  3. We are encouraging the children to fasten their own buttons and
  4. Zips, and to buckle/fasten their shoes. This is a most important

    Step for their early independence.

  5. If at any time you wish to speak to us about anything
  6. Concerning your child, please feel free to come in and have a word with us. You are also welcome to come and see their work.

  7. On Mondays we collect a £1 towards milk, biscuits and other consumable items in the early years unit.

Thank you very much indeed for your co-operation.

Yours sincerely,

S. Ashley
