Spring letter

Dear Mums and Dads,

Here are a few pieces of information, which may be of interest to you for next half term.

As a class the children will be focusing on "springtime and growing" as their topic.

In Personal and Social development they will continue to dress independently and to manage their own personal hygiene. They will have a developing awareness of their own needs, views and feelings, to select and use activities independently and understand what is right and wrong.

In Language and Literacy they will explore and experiment with sounds, listen and respond to stories, hear and say initial sounds in words. We will continue with Letterland and the children will be encouraged to bring items from home in the following weeks.

Week beginning: -

18th February: Munching Mike says "m"
- Yo-yo man says "y"

25th February: Naughty Nick says "n"
- Eddy Elephant says "e"

4th March: Wicked water witch says "w"
- Ticking Tess says "t"

11th March : Hairy Hat man says "h"
- Lucy Lamp Lady says "l"

18h March: Impy ink says "i"
- Kicking king says "k"

25th March: Oscar orange says "o" - Sammy Snake says "s"

In Mathematical development they will say and use number names in order in familiar contexts, find one more, and use developing mathematical ideas and methods to solve problems. We would like to continue with our colour table. If you child would like to bring in an item of that colour it would be most welcome.

Week 1 - Yellow
Week 2 - Orange
Week 3 - Purple
Week 4 - Brown
Week 5 - Grey
Week 6 - Black

In Knowledge and Understanding of the world (science, technology, history and geography) they will identify some features of living things, talk and find out about their environment. This will be an ideal opportunity for them to explore "new life" through the planting of seeds, studying a spring bulb, discovering new buds, shoots on the trees, talking about all the new baby animals.

In Creative development they will explore colour, texture, shape, and form and use their imagination. They will recognise and explore how sounds can be changed and learn simple songs.

Thank you very much indeed for your co-operation.

Yours sincerely,
G. Banks
Nursery Nurse
