Coven 2004

Coven Day 1, Monday, 27 September 2004

Coven 2004

The Coven staff felt that this group were the best they had ever taught on how to erect a tent.

Mrs Jennings has forbidden rain for the week and so far the weather has obeyed! We got off to a slightly delayed start as one of the coaches had a puncture which meant a double run. By the time the second group arrived, the first group were well advanced in putting their tents up.

Adding some finishing touches

This looks a comfortable place to spend the night

Has Ash left his mate enough room?

These girls wanted to share three to a tent

The complete campsite

A briefing session in the marquee

Followed by lunch

After lunch the groups did their various activities. The key ones today were archery, climbing, pond dipping and problem solving. These photographs are from the groups doing problem solving.

Stand in a circle, hold hands and without touching the rope with your hands pass it around the whole group.

The stone flags are shark infested custard. Using three milk crates and two planks, cross your team across the custard. If you fall off you get eaten by the sharks!

A ski race (with four to a ski!)

The other groups try their hand at beating the sharks

While the others try the skis

The bake bean challenge. Using four ropes and a rubber collar, work out a method of removing the bake beans from the camp fire without stepping into the rope circle.

Passing through the spiders web without touching the strands

Not easy.

The afternoon activities were followed by an opportunity to sort out tents, bedding, sleeping bags etc followed by dinner- a choice of lamb twiddlers or broccoli bake plus pudding.

At the moment (6.0 p.m) the children have free time to play on the grassbefore their final evening activities.
