Bergen - Belson Concentration Camp

Bergen - Belson Concentration Camp

Dear Kitty,
Six days ago we taken. Father was separated from us, however.. I am still with mother and Margot at least. I am terrified! I don't know what's going to happen. I wish father was with us.

Bergen - Belson Concentration Camp

These concentration camps are horrible. They are dirty messy, smelly, and very crowded. Every day more poor people come from all different directions on cattle vans. They talk about fearful braking and terrific journeys.

Our journey was terrible, so was the arrest.. We were upstairs in our secret annex and heard crashes and bangs downstairs. Suddenly the bookcase covering our door was wrenched away...... The police came in and grabbed us. We had no time to do anything. Luckily I had been writing to you at the time.

We were all taken out of the house and forced into a very, very crowded cattle carriage. There must have been a hundred people in there, all tired ,all frightened and all knowing they were going to die.

The next day we passed another cattle carriage, We stopped and some people were taken out of our van into the other one. Father was taken too. Everyone was upset. Me , mother and Margot were crying.
Two and a half days later we reached our concentration camp. Mr Vandaan was killed at once. He was taken to the showers and never came back. Peter and Mr Vandaan were terribly upset.

Bergen - Belson Concentration Camp

I don't know what's going to happen to us. We are sure to be killed. I wonder whether father was killed at once, as soon as he reached his concentration camp.

Bergen - Belson Concentration Camp

Will I ever see him again? Will I get out of this camp alive? Will all my family be re-united? I wish I knew all the answers.

Yours Anne
