Maths is just ‘child’s play'! Year 6 pupils have designed and made a series of board games to develop the maths skills of pupils in years 3 and 4. Firstly they had to decide what maths skills their game would involve, then they had to think about an idea for a game which the children would enjoy whilst doing lots of maths at the same time.
The games were made with an emphasis on attractive and interesting presentation, rules were produced and then the year 6 pupils tested the games on each other: the final test was playing the games with pupils from years 3 & 4. All the pupils were engrossed in the games, and the younger children were encouraged to evaluate the games and make suggestions for improvements – there weren’t many. At the end of the session the year 3 /4 children were amazed to discover that they had just had a maths lesson! Well done Year 6! |
