Anne Frank's Diary YEAR 6 have been finding out about History through the lives of famous people. One of our year 6 literacy targets is to use conjunctions to make complex sentences. You can see from this piece of work how pupils have successfully combined the two. Pupils were asked to imagine what Anne may have written in her diary a few days after her family were betrayed. This is what Jodie wrote: 7th August 1944 Dear Kitty, Three days since my world in the Secret Annexe came to an end. I thought it was a prison, however now I know it was a secret haven. It all happened so suddenly: first we heard loud banging downstairs then the bookshelf over our secret door was wrenched away. Mrs van Daan screamed. We tried to run upstairs but it was too late. The Gestapo burst in and grabbed Margot by the arm, then I stopped running and walked downstairs, I couldn't leave Margot on her own. One by one everyone was caught; they dragged us outside and slung us in to the cattle wagon where hundreds of people were already sitting on the floor crying, hot and cramped - and to think we had to squeeze in there too. My head was spinning, I couldn't think straight, everything was whizzing around in my head. I could see we were in for a long journey. It's been great having you to talk to, but this is probably the last time I write. Bye Kitty. |
