Dear Parents,
Year 5 Autumn Term Curriculum
We hope you had a pleasant summer.
This is the curriculum letter for the first half of the Autumn Term for Year 5.
Literacy: We are following the Literacy strategy, looking in particular at instructional texts, recounts, concrete poetry, novels, stories and poems by significant authors and play scripts.
Numeracy: We are following the Numeracy strategy, looking in particular at place value, multiplication and division, fractions, decimals and percentages, handling data, measures including problems about measures
Science: Our focus topic for this term is Keeping healthy. We will be looking at healthy eating, exercise, functions of the heart and drug and alcohol misuse.
History: We will be looking at Tudor exploration, focusing on the lives of sailors on ships, famous explorers and voyages and how exploration changed the world we live in.
Design and Technology: We are going to be investigating bread, including how it is made, how we can adapt recipes and its importance in our diet.
Music: We are looking at Cyclic patterns in Indian Dholki drum playing. This will include playing drums, listening to complex drum patterns and composing simple strings of rhythmic beats.
P.E. The children will be learning how to play hockey and will be using apparatus in gymnastics.
R.E. This term we are finding out about Inheriting a tradition, concentrating on the similarities and differences between the major religions that influence our culture.
Each week we will be giving the children spellings and tables to learn.
