Y5 in a car crash!

The car crash Design Technology Project.
Y5 pupils make cardboard cars using a template.
They then let a weight loose on a plank
to see what damage is done to the car.

The car gets crunched and the pupils then have to redesign and reinforce the car using card to protect the passenger section.

They eventually learn that modern cars have two collapsible areas- the boot and engine areas which can absorb the impact of a crash while protecting the reinforced passenger section.
